“Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.”¹– Margaret Mead
I found this quote on the web and it made me think of the translation professionals who use SDL Trados Studio. We believe you are unique. We understand the individual ways in which you use SDL Trados Studio to help you perform your various tasks throughout the day. We also admire the passion you apply to your craft and the professional attention you demonstrate in keeping customers satisfied by delivering quality jobs.
Your Studio, your way
So we wanted to celebrate your uniqueness in the latest version of SDL Trados Studio, Studio 2015, by providing a way to personalize your CAT tool environment. An environment that you can make your own, that will reflect the way you work and at the same time, make you more productive. Being able to tailor any software to your job role provides many advantages.
So, what benefits will personalizing Studio 2015 bring? There will be many new ways to adapt the software so that you can work more efficiently and productively. Also, if you don’t like the way your workspace is laid out, then you can change it to a way that suits you best. Here are a few example of how this can be done:
So with Studio 2015, you can continue to personalize your keyboard shortcuts and your screen layout – if you don’t want all the windows open at the same time, close them down! If you are feeling in a sunny mood, turn your interface yellow! Plus the new-look ribbon-based screen enables you to group the functionality to support your own personal usage pattern, or to map onto your job role. Mainly working in review mode today? Group your reviewer and quality check functionality so it’s easy and quick to access!
Studio 2015 provides an integrated environment where you can choose additional functionality to extend the features of your CAT tool. Using the industry’s first application store and developer hub, SDL OpenExchange, you can add applications that can be accessed directly from the ribbon. Perhaps you want to track the time you’ve spent on a specific client’s work, download Time Tracker or maybe you’ve got a glossary of branding terms in an Excel spreadsheet, use the Glossary Converter to create a Termbase.
And you can now pull SDL Language Cloud Machine Translation (MT) directly into Studio so you can use it as an additional resource when translating. This provides suggestions from industry and SDL trained generic MT engines, enabling you to incorporate these into your own translation memory for later use.
Every translator is unique
So reflecting on the quote above, each time I meet a different customer at one of our many SDL Roadshows or at one of the numerous industry events we attend, I can’t help but think how interesting translation professionals like you are. I don’t agree with the quote – you are not all the same, you all have your own quirkiness, your own individuality and your own core translation competency. You are one special profession and I applaud your individuality.
Long may we be there as technology pioneers to support your profession.
