A little bit about you…
What is your name?
What is your job role?
Product Marketing Executive for Translation Productivity
Which SDL office do you work in?
How long have you worked at SDL?
Over 3 years now!
Let’s talk about SDL and the translation industry…
What is your favorite feature in an SDL translation productivity product?
It’s difficult to pick just one! I would say overall my favorite feature is upLIFT technology, which was introduced in SDL Trados Studio 2017. I love demonstrating this feature to translators as it really does have the wow factor. upLIFT technology automatically gives you smaller phases or words (fragments) from your translation memory to help you to translate whole segments.
In SDL Trados Studio 2019 my favorite feature is Tell Me, which gives you instant access to all of Studios commands and settings, helping you to unlock more from Studio. Both of these feature really help you to get more from your CAT tool.
What excites you about the translation industry in 2018? What trends do you see emerging?
The trend I hear most about in the industry is neural machine translation, with lots of big names developing their own Neural MT – including SDL! It’s interesting to hear changing opinions on machine translation from our customers who are increasingly open to using machine translation as a helpful resource after seeing notable quality improvement. It’s clear to all of us in the industry that it’s a trend that’s here to stay.
From your experience, what would be your best bit of advice for translators?
During your time at SDL, what is the most common myth that you’ve come across?
That SDL doesn’t listen to their customer. Part of my role at SDL is to gather feedback from customers, ensuring their voice is heard. We run customer focus groups globally, review feedback in surveys and someone from SDL is always happy to listen to you at the many events we attend each year.
Tell us about your interests and hobbies…
Away from the world of translation, what do you do for fun?
At the start of 2018, I couldn’t even run 1km, so I set myself running goals and completed a 10km race back in June. I then got ahead of myself and signed up to Tough Mudder with a few other colleagues from SDL, which I took part in last weekend and successfully completed!
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself
I used to own a very cute fluffy chicken called a Silkie – google them.
