Let’s talk about SDL and the translation industry…
Why do you think it is important for people working in the translation industry to attend events?
Translators who may work on their own most of the time, can attend industry events to network with their peers and refresh their knowledge of innovations and trends in the industry. When translation professionals meet each other, they can share hints and tips and best practices when using translation software products, like SDL Trados Studio. It’s also an energizing day out …
Which translation and localization events would you recommend attending?
Association events in country, such as GALA, ATA, ELIA, ATC and EUATC are hugely important in helping translators and translation agencies meet each other and encourage in their members a feeling of being part of a community. Also, I would of course, thoroughly recommend the SDL Trados Roadshows, which the Translation Productivity team run twice a year in around 18 different cities each series. These one day events are free, and best of all – our guests can meet our lovely SDL colleagues in person! – and it’s my job to organize these, so I am naturally proud to bring them right across the world.
Tell us about your interests and hobbies…
Away from the world of translation, what do you do for fun?
I love to make Mosaic art in my studio – and I am a member of the Tolkien Society as I have been a huge fan since reading the Hobbit when I was 11. I also love rummaging at auction sales and watching Scandi Noir series, like ‘The Bridge’!
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself
I was an extra in a movie starring Goldie Hawn and Peter Sellers in the 1960’s. It’s a terribly bad movie.
