The SDL Studio GroupShare 2015 release is now here.
Since the launch of GroupShare in 2009 it has established itself as a tried and tested collaboration solution and we now have many clients with extensive experience and numerous successful projects. In GroupShare 2015 to further enhance these clients’ experience, we have added ‘Project Archiving’ functionality to this latest release that supports the management of past projects.
This feature will automatically move completed projects into an archived state after a specified number of days, which can be defined by individual GroupShare clients based on the requirement of their internal processes. These projects will remain on the GroupShare Server so that they can be restored as and when to live projects, should there be a need.
As these archived projects age, there is the option to manually detach these projects from the GroupShare server and move all projects files, with their project information, into an archive folder of your choosing. Furthermore, there is the capability to delete all associated Project Translation Memories, which will significantly reduce the amount of TMs and the space they take on your system.
As Studio GroupShare is an integral part of the SDL Language Platform, we continue to add features to ensure it remains open and flexible, in order to seamlessly integrate with a variety of environments and business systems, as well as unlocking the potential for new use cases.
One feature that has been introduced to support this seamless integration is the Assignment functionality which is evoked through the REST API. REST APIs in SDL Studio GroupShare 2015 enable the assignment of individual files for translation or review to specific users. An example of a benefit of integration with REST APIs can be seen in how GroupShare integrates with products such as Plunet Business Manager and XTRF.
I would like to tell you about another benefit. One which I am very excited about as it is a personal project of mine. I am currently in the process of teaching myself programming in Swift, which is the new development language by Apple for iOS applications.
With the introduction of the new REST API, I thought it would be a great idea to create a mobile App, so that you as a Project Manager can assign files to users and change phases directly from your iPhone while on the go!
I’ve included a sneak peak screenshot for all of you to see. I’m not promising any release date yet, as I’m not a developer by trade, but watch out for it on the SDL OpenExchange App Store.
As you can see this opens GroupShare to new use cases. As we now have REST APIs for User Management and Assignment, another example is that now you can assign permissions to resources temporarily through the API.
When a task is assigned, you can also provide users temporary access to the appropriate organization. As the task moves to the next user, that permission will be removed.
There are also further improvements in this release of GroupShare:
With MultiTerm Server, we have introduced additional levels of permissions that enable you to closely manage the actions specific roles can take within termbase activity.
And for TM Server, we have improved the performance when working with TMs and lookup results, as well as making Analysis much faster.
Furthermore, we have also performed a UX review of the GroupShare Web UI, with a view to making managing GroupShare a more enjoyable experience, while at the same time updating the overall UX design.
